The Survival Game – Nicky Singer

In a world full of checkpoints and controls, can love and hope defy the borders? Mhairi Anne Bain owns only two things: a gun with no bullets and her identity papers. She has learnt the importance of living her own story, of speaking to no one. The last thing she needs is an abandoned boy as a companion. But here he is on the road in front of her. Called ‘fantastic and terrifying’ by Eoin Colfer, The Survival Game is set in a very near future and asks what would you risk – or sacrifice – to get to safety?

Nicky is a novelist, dramatist and librettist. Winner of the Blue Peter Award for Feather Boy, her novels have been adapted for television (BAFTA winner for Best Children’s Drama); stage (including a musical with lyrics by Don Black) and opera (Knight Crew– her retelling of the King Arthur legend, premiered at Glyndebourne). Her first original play Island (about ice-bears and the nature of reality) was staged at the National Theatre. She re-wrote Island as a novel with illustrations by Chris Riddell. The Survival Game is already sold in 7 countries and under option for film.
